Google refurbished Google News

July 1st, 2010

The first thing I do for the day is visiting either the Google’s News page or the Times of India’s epaper edition. Today I came across the Google News and just saw what’s happening in the U.S. To my surprise Google has refurbished the News with a new ‘News of you’ option which will get a survey of what kind of news you read, what genre, etc.

Based on this Google will store it and display the news based on that particular section for you, each time when you visit the Google News page. Also in the right pane, Google has made a total change in the display of the news and updates. It shows the Google News which has been posted recently, News which is topping the charts, World cup football 2010 updates which are rising everywhere and Google has not left that too.

The most important one is that, they track our location using our IP address and they display the weather forecast for today and the next 2 days. This is something new for the Google News page where there is no need to set our State/Country, while Google will identify it and will update it accordingly.

Mozilla Firefox 4 coming on the way with tabs on top

July 1st, 2010

Earlier we have seen different versions of Firefox released after the release of Google Chrome which has taken the position of Firefox in the top usage by users worldwide. Now its time for Firefox to get again into the competition with their next version of Firefox handling various issues which Google Chrome and Safari does. It will also have a newly installed JavaScript Engine which will be useful for easy execution of the scripts.

They are coming up with a new look to the browser which looks similar to the Google Chrome’s featured browsing which possesses the tab bar on the top and the address bar placed inside in the tabbed widows. The above image will give you a gist of how it will be and it is clear that the first version will have some bugs and those bugs will be cleared as soon as people test the browser and report them soon after the release.

To my experience, I loved using Firefox until the Google Chrome came into existence and I like it since the version 3 of Firefox looked less user friendly. The speed of the browser also was seemingly less compared to Chrome since Chrome uses cached browsing which makes you to reduce the internet usage. Hope Firefox 4 lives up to my dreams ;)

Linux Torvalds says “Nexus One is the Winner”

February 8th, 2010

Linux Torvalds, the man behind the linux kernel has bought the Google’s Nexus One few days ago and he has said the Nexus one is the Winner. He has reported that he has used many phones and he was using it to play games like Solitaire even though they were using Open Source Operating System, but he says Nexus one is the best. He added that he thought of adding GPRS to his car but Nexus one Phone does the job perfectly. Here is his quote:

But I have to admit, the Nexus One is a winner. I wasn’t enthusiastic about buying a phone on the internet sight unseen, but the day it was reported that it finally had the pinch-to-zoom thing enabled, I decided to take the plunge. I’ve wanted to have a GPS unit for my car anyway, and I thought that google navigation might finally make a phone useful.

And it does. What a difference! I no longer feel like I’m dragging a phone with me “just in case” I would need to get in touch with somebody – now I’m having a useful (and admittedly pretty good-looking) gadget instead. The fact that you can use it as a phone too is kind of secondary.

Google has not yet revealed the status for it’s Nexus one sold outs. The company would have sold 1 lakh phone by now and Torvalds is happy with it.

Google becomes the Greatest Enemy for Apple

February 1st, 2010

Steve Jobs has expressed his dis gratitude over Google in the recently launched iPad conference. Google has already come up with a new Google Nexus one to remove iPhone from the market. Steve Jobs is very angry on Google for the launch of the new Super Phone(Nexus one).

apple-vs-google

Steve also explains that Adobe is also making him angry with the Flash software not functioning in iPad, iPhone and Mac. Steve says: “Adobe is lazy. Apple does not support Flash because it is so buggy. Whenever a Mac crashes more often than not it’s because of Flash. No one will be using Flash. The world is moving to HTML5.”

Whereas when the debate comes forward to Google, Jobs says Google has tried to “Kill the iPhone”. “We did not enter the search business,” he said. “They entered the phone business. Make no mistake, they want to kill the iPhone. We won’t let them.”

P.S. Apple has started their fight much before by buying the advertising company Quattro, we should remember this too. I have quoted this some time back in my post on Quattro and Nexus One creating fight between Google and Apple.

'Google' is word of the decade, 'Tweet' is word of the year 2009

January 14th, 2010

I came to know today that the world’s best search engine and the one which is used by most of us, ‘Google‘ has been named the word of the decade by American research scholars. They also mentioned that ‘Tweet‘ is the word of the year 2009. These scholars have said that the word ‘Google‘ which is a verb, that has the meaning ‘search in the internet’ is used by most people now-a-days and it is worth giving the title ‘Word of the Decade’. American Dialect Society has voted Google as the word of the decade as well.

The society also has chosen ‘Tweet‘, a simple Short messaging service which is currently ruling the world in Twitter. They revealed it in the 20th annual session held in Baltimore. “Both words are, in the end, products of the information age, where every person has the ability to satisfy curiosity and to broadcast to a select following, both via the Internet,” said Grant Barrett, chairman of the society’s new words committee.

Other Nominees for ‘word of the decade’ includes ‘blog’, ’9/11′, ‘Facebook‘, ‘text’, ‘Wi-Fi’ and ‘war on terror’. “I really thought ‘blog’ would take the honours in the word of the decade category, but more people Google than blog don’t they? Plus, many people think ‘blog’ just sounds ugly,” Barrett said in a statement.

Other Nominees for ‘word of the year’ were the suffix ‘-er’, ‘fail’, and ‘H1N1‘ (swine flu causing virus).

Quattro and Nexus One creates a clash between Apple and Google

January 8th, 2010

Its almost popular to everyone that Google has introduced its Nexus One and they had bet it big on the Mobile Phone markets which is currently ruled by Apple. On the same day of Nexus one’s release Apple has announced Quattro Wireless, a mobile advertising platform. Just like Google entering Apple’s platform, Apple makes a Tit for Tat.

Apple's new Mobile Wireless Ad Company

Apple's new Mobile Wireless Ad Company

Apple has acquired the $275 million Quattro Wireless company with the motive to enter the Ad market where Google has been ruling for years. Apple has its own fears against Google because most of its core Apps for iPhone are developed by Google. To name a few Gmail, Maps, etc,. Hence the competition is very stiff and to get out there and earn your bug you need to be ruling the world to get that. That’s what both the companies are trying to do as of now. Lets see how far this battle drags and who gets the market.
